What is Earthbound?

What is Earthbound you ask? Well, Earthbound is an RPG (roly-playing game) released for the SNES in 1995. It is also known as 'Mother 2' in Japan. Which means Earthbound is sequel to 'Mother' a.k.a Earthbound Zero.

Although Earthbound was very popular in Japan, it didn't do very well in America. The biggest reason why is because of games, such as Final Fantasy, were more known of and had better graphics. Even though Nintendo spent a lot of money of advertising for Earthbound, it was ignored by the public. In theory, Earthbound probably would have become popular if games like Final Fantasy weren't around or were not as 'graphically impressive'.

Timeline of Ness

Images of Ness owned by Nintendo

As the picture shows, Ness (the hero of Earthbound) has only been in three games.

The first game (1994/1995) is Ness from Earthbound. This is the only game where Ness is an actual 'main character'.

The second game (1999) is Ness from Super Smash Bros. In this game, Ness was treated with the loyalty he deserves, because he was the hardest unlockable. To many, he was also considered top tier.

The third game (2001) is Ness from Super Smash Bros. Melee. This game did not show off Ness's talents... All of his attacks did less damage, he was a 'light weight' character, and his 3rd jump had become shortened. Even with all of these negatives, Onett and Fourside appeared as courses. Also, Mr. Saturn was an item and some characters from the game were collectible trophies.

After seven long years of a Ness-less time period, he finally was confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In this game, Ness was buffed to his N64 version. His yo-yo was upgraded along with all the rest of his attacks. Even Jeff appeared as an Assist Trophy. Onett returned while Fourside got the dump, and a new stage (based off of Mother 3) appeared. Also many Earthbound related stickers appear in the new sticker collection mode.

What is the future of Ness and all things Earthbound? Well, this site makes flash videos, games, and music all featured in Earthbound. Nintendo may re-release Earthbound on the Wii's virtual console but, other than that... Ness will only live on...in the hearts of Earthbound fans.
