The follow glitch only applies to the early copies of Earthbound. Also this glitch is only possible in the US verison of the game.

To start the glitch begin a new game in the 2nd game save slot. Set your text speed to fast, sound setting to mono, and flavor to strawberry.

Name the characters and all that anything you want. Play the game until Pokey finally knocks on your door looking for Picky. When he ask you to help him save Picky follow these instructions...

HOLD DOWN THE R BUTTON THE ENTIRE TIME

SAY NO FIVES TIME THAN SAY YES ONCE

At this point the game will freeze for a couple seconds but will unfreeze shortly.
